Nipa virus

Kerala, a state in southern India, is currently battling two different viral infections. The number of people infected with the corona virus and the current outbreak of the NIPA virus is increasing. Although these viruses are similar in nature, they are completely different in different ways.
The Times of Sophia reports that a 12-year-old boy in Kerala has contracted the NIPA virus and died. Kerala’s health minister, Vina George, confirmed the news and acknowledged that 11 people who had been in contact with victims of the NIPA virus had contracted the virus.

?What is NIPA virus

NIPA virus was first detected in 1990 in Malaysia. In India, the virus was first detected in 2001 in Siliguri, West Bengal. At that time, 45 people died from this viral infection.
Kerala also recorded cases of NIPA virus infection in 2018. Note that the mortality rate from this virus is 40 to 80% and its incubation period is two weeks. NIPA virus is a common virus between humans and animals that is easily transmitted from animals to humans and also through contaminated food. And can be transmitted directly between people. The virus is caused by fruit bats.
People infected with the virus will have fatal respiratory problems and encephalitis (inflammation of the brain). The virus is not present in the air and is transmitted through bats and pigs. NIPA is not only dangerous to humans but also to animals.

Common symptoms of NIPA virus infection

NIPA virus shows similar symptoms to QUID-19. Cough, dizziness, drowsiness, sore throat, muscle aches, fatigue and swelling of the brain (encephalitis) with neck stiffness, headache, seizures, dizziness, are common symptoms of the virus. People may go into a coma and lose their lives.

Nipa treatment

There is still no specific treatment for NIPA virus. If symptoms occur, the person should consult a physician immediately. Diagnosis can be made by RT-PCR, cerebrospinal fluid, urine, and blood tests, followed by antibody testing.
Unfortunately, there is no specific cure for NIPA virus yet. The person who observes these symptoms should consult a physician immediately and can be diagnosed using RT-PCR, urine, cerebrospinal fluid, and blood tests. After recovery, the person is tested for antibodies.
Your doctor will prescribe medication to control the symptoms of encephalitis, so avoid self-medication as it may aggravate the condition.

Precautions

There is still no vaccine to fight the virus, so to fight it, avoid eating fruits that have fallen to the ground or coming into contact with infected animals and humans. Also, stay away from fruit bats and avoid approaching stray animals.
